I could have added something personal -  

I was in San Francisco and Berkeley and south to Bakersfield in 1969,  but not in LA. I don’t remember specifically seeing band t-shirts in that era - and certainly no specific band -  but I couldn’t discount the idea.

There were great “head shops” which sold just about everything - I remember other printed t-shirts at about that time but ??? (when exactly?)  -  I sold home-made caftans on consignment at some of the shops so I pretty much knew what was in them and my memory includes some slogans, etc.  but not bands or concerts.  

This is why I had to look it up.
