The reference to seeing Jean Crapaud (hard not to think of Crapper) is a reference to what happens in upcoming Part 4: the Seahorse, en route to Sumatra, will be attacked by a French military ship in the English Channel. A frightening experience that will make Cherrycoke, Mason and Dixon need to run for the crapper.
