and I just want to point out this:

line 7, p.14---"I even dreamed in those days"...dreaming is
a fine thing in general in Pynchon I suggest and isn't it
Maxine from BE who has lost her ability to be in touch
with her dreams. This line, of course, from Cherrycoke himself
implies he no longer can dream.
