Sounds great! This is one of the reasons I’m here, to get great recommendations.
I’m reading Don Winslow’s The Power of the Dog, recommended here. It’s great.
I’m also reading Amitav Ghosh, The Great Derangement, about the climate crisis. Just read his Ibis trilogy, also recommended here.
Just received in the mail today, Nancy MacLean, Democracy in Chains, recommended by Allan. Nancy is a powerhouse. I recommend listening to the podcast on bdnow.org, where Allan interviews her, which basically means he says hello and then gets out of the way while she lays it out. Can’t overstate how strong she is.
Also, The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump. Those of you who saw Bandy Lee on Democracy Now will know about this. 27 psychiatrists assess The Dumpsters mental health, or lack of same.
M&D has to be one of the finest novels written in the English language.

Binet is French (the book is translated) which is cool becuase the tale is about the traffic accident which beset Roland Barthes in Paris in 1980 and, in the story, how a certain police chief was dispatched to check it out.

The fictional translator’s name is Simon Herzog and he’s a brilliant deductor of clues - or signs if you will - like the guy his initials point to - SH. - lol -
