Subject: On WA Po's new bestseller and another edition. News and opinion.

Ron,

Dennis Johnson's Melville House edition was oversubscribed even as it
shipped and stores which
ordered it later than others are waiting for the reprint. That twitter
story-thread he did, picked up all over
(including strongly within the bookseller community) must have done it. And
other stuff I may not have seen.

AND I think WA Po made a publishing mistake in having the actual report
itself, inside its otherwise
best book on the Mueller Report, be in off-white,* World Almanac* or
otherwise cheaper-looking paper.

THAT report itself needed to be in blinding white---esp since black
redactions would have set it off so
well. Visually, for readability that STICKS, the printing choice was bad.
Too much it makes a
reader feel as one does reading on a screen--the text is more transient,
less solid, less OFFICIAL, less like *real writing. *
*Therefore less real. *

A dustbin of history one-off, harder to read--therefore anti-universal;
anti-fully democratic--reinforcing what two bright friends have already
said to
me as I read it---boring, right? NOT IF ONE LIKES PERFECT LEGAL CLARITY---
AS IF ORWELL WAS A PROSE-WRITING LAWYER.
Not if one underlines and takes some notes. Not if one traces the
argumentative threads. NOT IF ONE READS
THE FOOTNOTES........

My review would be headlined READ EVERY FOOTNOTE!.....

there was a book even before my bookselling time but still
occasionally asked for called NONE DARE CALL IT TREASON.

My review might also read, OK, NO TREASON: BUT THIS IS THE MORALLY WORST
PRESIDENCY WE HAVE EVER SEEN. AND AMERICA
IS STILL IN DANGER.

Just 2c worth.
okay 4c.
