If you are sending a letter or postcard to Thomas Ruggles Pynchon for his
birthday---and I
think, per Holden Caulfield, that, since you can't call him up, this would
be a warm and wonderful gesture
to 'just say' what his work has meant to you,-- then it should be in the US
mails by tomorrow.

The Trystero System takes longer, I gather (unless you are in NYC).

You know the address drill.

To the Europeans reading this: you are late at standard postage. But it's
never too late to Say Thanks, as the self-help pundits are always saying.
You can blame the mails.

This year I am going to suggest that he write a new introduction to Henry
Adams'
DEGRADATION OF THE DEMOCRATIC DOGMA, which he has surely read---there was a
later, 1930something edition
by a later Adams that left out the two now-unreadable 'scientific"
essays---metaphorically political--
and added lots of this later Adams- the-historian's current-then, now
dated, words but...STILL!?! ...and get Melanie Jackson to
have it reissued.

Everything old is new again, sometimes, esp the current degradation.

I guess that my possible success with this recommendation is less than 1%.
