The lyricism of some of the writing in that first chapter of Part 2, the
Iceland Spar section...man, one can feel surprise at every
third word as P surfs along at length. Yet, a lyricism against itself, its
association with happier scenes, with the pastoral tradition.

Ice and all its meanings...."the topic of study would be Living Creatures.
I suggested ice. They threw me out of class."

Is this and the next couple sections P's deepest presentation of what we
call Original Sin and discussed here? or, as always
with him, somehow not Original in the usual sense but formed by life?
