way it did?

The answer to your own most basic question is contained in the famous 
Sherlock Holmes quote. I thought this was obvious:

It is indeed improbable that WTC 7 was rigged with explosives without 
anyone noticing. However, when you have eliminated the impossible (or, 
in the words of the report from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, "any 
progressive sequence of failures that could have taken place on 
September 11, 2001, and caused a total collapse of the building, let 
alone the observed straight-down collapse with approximately 2.5 seconds 
of free fall and minimal differential movement of the exterior") as a 
cause for the collapse, whatever remains, however improbable, must be 
the truth.

It might be worth noting that false-flag operations are specifically 
designed to fail Occam's Razor.
