That was a joke, Mark ( the foundational principles). I always understood that emotherapy is not a real thing, but what is P spoofing? It’s all kind of made up and why is a smart person like Maxine going to Shawn is what I’m trying to get at.

In the slightly more real side I would say that Maxine keeps going back to Shawn because he is willing to confront Maxine enough to get her to think things through more comprehensively, which on her own , she mght avoid. I think this is in the nature of therapy for many, that  the ‘patient’ is giving someone else permission to get to know them in an unguarded way, and use that insight  to be calmly real and honest with them about things they know they would not be real and honest about. Something like that.
