Yes, you are correct. But the “room “ is Slothrup’s conscious mind. What
used to be “inside it” (“whoever he was inside it”), has kindly stayed
quietly outside “it” (outside his consciousness), and “they” (all those
parts of him) are now “reassembling” in his unconscious mind.
