Read M&D, especially the parts about the Hollow Earth and the rest of the
old magic disappearing once the Enlightenment philosophers have completed
their project.  Read Ken Wilber to understand how the Enlightenment also
marginalized the Eucharist.

Shlain's book is a survey. He provides no more information about pigs that
what I quoted in my post (at least not in the chapters I've read so far).
His bibliography does point to other sources, however.
